I recently saw online an interesting restoration-modified Corvette and it reminded me of the following, which is also a "resto-mod":
http://www.corvetteblogger.com/index.cfm/2008/10/21/VIDEO-Auction-Results-1958-Corvette-RestoMod-Sells-for-170K
As the announcer says at the conclusion of the video, this car is fabulous because it is very nearly unchanged from its original 1958 aesthetic, but is loaded with contemporary power, handling, and comfort features. Best of both worlds.
Of course, some may quibble about the wheels on this particular car or others may reject any resto-mod on principle, but I reckon that this car here is truly special. Somebody else did, too -- he paid USD 170,000 for it!

This would be a great car to have. I'd drive it half the time, weather be damned. No trailer, no hiding in the garage 'til the next show.
And, when you consider the work that has been done, and the fact that a new supercar from Maranello costs twice as much, the price on this resto-mod is not _that_ expensive.
