Our C5 Test Drive

Postby australi » Thu Aug 31, 2006 11:51 pm

My personal thanks go to Kevin at Corvette Qld, for allowing me (and my better half, pictured driving it) today, to try out a C5 they have for sale...

It was the first C5 either of us have driven; We now have a much better idea of what they feel like compared to the ‘Snow Dragon’…Now if we can just make room for a sixth registered vehicle at home…

I don't know the history of the engine other than since I've owned it and very mildly warmed it too.

Ah; well THAT is a different story!

I didn’t get to put it through its paces, as I don’t DO THAT with other peoples cars, but CERTAINLY the comfort and smoothness of driving & steering, was 100% better than my very 'raw' (as I call it) 'race car like' suspension (Read also, does my C4 HAVE ANY SHOCK ABSORBERS???)
:-x

Early model C4s will eat a C5 alive in an autocross if the power is brought up to simular specs... And they will look meaner while they do it!!! :-x

u may be right case however when you refer to STOCK specs there isnt a chance in hell...if ya brought up a c4 to c5 to same specs then there is no point in calling it a c4 then is there? considering everything else is c5 right? the whole point in test driving a car isn't for autocross but for personal use. If you want to modify it & spend that much cash then why not buy a c6?

Cause as it stands, my car owes me less than $50,000 AUD, and if i was to spend another $150,000 AUD id be eating a base level C6 for breakfast piss easy. (and $200,000 is about what it would cost on the road here for a base level C6)

Im saying improve the power output ONLY. No other specs would need to be improved.

The whole point to my reply to the post he made about the C5 handling better is that i beg to differ with it. In some circumstances they probably do, but as im sure XRCRX will attest to, C4s can and do still hold their own to a C5. (and who cares about harsh ride? You want a sports car or a water bed??)

Thats exactly right, that is just you two and certainly not me. If i had the time and the money id have my car on the race track every weekend flogging the shit out of it without giving it a second thought.

(But thats just crazy young me!!! :-x )
