C5 Vats bypass

Postby Panther » Mon Jul 07, 2008 8:26 pm

Ok, got sick of the vats playing with my head, so I did a lot of reasearch and asked lots of questions, not many correct replies came back.

Its actually very simple, once I figured out what I needed to do, it took 5 mins to test, car started straight up, over the next couple of days I will clean it up and take some pics, it will be a good tech tip, better than the not quite complete ones I found, for those that helped thanks, to those that didn't I hope this may help you

How's that song go : On the road again

I went to JAYCAR to buy some resistors, darn they only come in packs of 8, I needed 2 different ones, a total of 16, so I got to the counter and said, mate, don't you have any single ones for sale I only need 1 of each, the guy said no sorry sir and your total for all 16 is 75 cents, so I had to add, no bloody wonder you don't sell them as singles.

So for 75 cents you can be On the road again

the true OHMS reading is a fair way out of what they are listed as, so I will get into that later

not a problem Max, I scanned most of the good usa sites, found the info, asked quite a few question as the info was not quite complete, even red helped, had to talk to a sparky here about wattage, and fixed it for 5 cents, so I corrected the usa sites, its so simple when you know
cheers

so this is how it is done, remove knee bolster to expose ignition, you will see the 2 white wires comming out of the front, follow the wires down to the connector and disconect, cut the wire as shown, shorten the wires on the resistor as shown attach srink wrap and soldier on, hee hee, gees at least smile, once done recheck resistance to ensure you havn't burnt out resistor plug it in and car will start every time, hope it helps someone
Cheers :D

There is an alternative, cause if LS1EDIT (or other simular program) is available, you can simply turn VATS off and reflash.
