speedo noise

Postby vett76 » Sun Feb 28, 2016 9:04 pm

My speedo is noisy and the needle bounces. So i suspect the cable or speedo head needs some lubricant.

my question is what is the easiest way to access the back of the speedo and put lubicant down the cable.
by going in from under the dash is tight and upside down.

Can the top crash pad be easy removed and come in from the top ?

The Top Pad Comes off after you remove the right lower dash, and the A pillar plastic trim. Then you can drop, (Just lower a bit) the steering column and pull the the left dash with instrument cluster. Sounds like you need a manual.

check there's no big kinks in the cable from where it exits the trans, all the way up to where it goes thru the firewall

i had the same problem when i put the t700 in, ended up using a 90* adapter where it left the box.
Speed has never killed anyone,
Suddenly becoming stationary that's what gets you.

Two people !

Way easier if one has hold of the cable inside the engine bay, and you have a hand up under the dash getting your finger tip on the little lock tab .

Why ? Because you can get at it but not enough to pull on it at the same time, takes a bit of co-ordination but it works.

I would say check the cable and replace if necessary before putting lube anywhere near the speedo workings.

I sprayed a 77 speedo with wd40 because I thought it was noisy and it never worked properly again..
The "bouncing" you say it does is the cable binding imo.

When its time to reconnect cable the guy in the engine bay pushes and you just guide it on , easy !
