Oh, that’s right; I keep forgetting about Vauxhall’s.
When I first went to Thailand about 10+ yrs ago; my very first night I spotted a Holden Kingswood! U could have knocked me over with a feather!

They were exported to Asia with original badging. I think they where a fairly high ticket item at the time. Conversely, my first visit to Asia showed that a high percentage of taxis were Mercedes-Benz; But on my last trip a year ago - Most were now Toyotas. ALWAYS a sign of the economy, and Thailand’s economy went down big time.

Yet you'd be AMAZED Case how relatively CHEAP MB's are in NZ! Like 50 grand for the 'kompressors'! Passed a car yard near Rotorua during our 'round the north island drive and they had good used 4wd's for sale and NONE were above 10 grand! Over HERE, the equivalent vehicle would be at LEAST 40 grand! Their Govt beats our blood-sucking one hands down - no import duties!

There is a good reason for them using Mercs, they run forever. And if they are diesel they are apparently good on fuel too.

No it's ok; my second home. Not as clean as Singapore (Mind you they have $1,000 fines for littering so that kinda explains THAT!), and Korea & Hong Kong cities are similar in tidiness to the Thai cities of Bangkok & the islands like Koh Samui, except the northern and outskirt regions of Thailand and the southern parts of India: Mostly dirt roads there and the people are generally REALLY REALLY poor. Even in Bangkok, there are many people who live UNDER bridges and the wake from boats on the Kok river washes INTO their makeshift lounge rooms !!!

We REALLY don't know how well off we ARE in the 'western' world :?

This aint the western world!! This is the Great Southern Land!! And it just so happens our particular area (from your joint to about 1hr north of me) is known as the Great South East. Anyone will tell you it's a prison island hidden in the summer for a million years....... :-o

He drives a Ford mate, but it has a Nissan Diesel engine in it, cause Maverics and Patrols are the same car. And, he is from QLD in Australia!!! So on that note, let us all see what's in the esky today....
