Manifold Vacuum.

Postby 98lux » Tue Apr 30, 2013 8:09 am

I read that people that change there cam could have manifold vacuum problems. So it got me thinking back to when i had my Hilux 4x4 and the alternator had the vacuum pump on the back. could anybody think of a reason why it would not work??

Had a huge cam in my 78, and yes it had vacumn problems, just not enough overlap. Still easy fix, just fit another small vacumn tank to give it some backup storage and should be as good as new. :o :D

I'm thinking that would be "To much overlap"
Intake Valve opens at say 23 degrees B.T.D.C. and Exhaust Valve doesn't close until say 30 A.T.D.C. , Hot cam that makes great power high up, But minimal Vacuum and little torque down low.

with your large 69 vac tank you should be ok , but after you get it running and you find it lacks boost after a few stops you can add another vaccy can easily enough

have driven a few street cars with that much cam n it is fun for a while........................ a little while in my books. hot cams are for race cars n boy racers(yes i was a boy racer not so long ago). but the good thing is you can change cams at any time :-x i would love a switch that swapped from hot to stock cam :o i might be a quiet bloke but got a poser streak :)
