And the luxury car tax rate hike from 25% to 33% won't help either.

At risk of putting foot in mouth... it seems that there are some extraordinary taxes, fees and costs Down Under for those who seek a vehicle a bit different than the rest. (not merely Corvette, but others as well)

Other blokes in other countries might not be aware of this... but for those who are... well... there is nothing but respect, frankly.

Yep, governments at state and federal level love to levy taxes.

Cutting in at a paltry $57,123 its' hardly a tax on the wealthy anymore. When it was first imposed it was aimed at business people with upmarket cars, but it hasn't been indexed to the CPI so it's catching lots of people now.

Another fondness of governments here is to put taxes on top of other taxes. When a national goods and services tax (i.e. value added tax) of 10% was imposed in 2001 by the Federal liberal government (after they said they would not introduce a GST under any circumstances), all of that money was handed back to the states on the proviso that they dismantled their byzantine structures of stamp duties and other taxes on their own services. The largest state, New South Wales did not do that and the all talk and no action Federal treasurer of the day threatened to withhold GST revenue to NSW until the dismantling occurred, but then chickened out.

So, NSW residents continue to pay tax upon tax.

I have to work with them! I see there lies, exagerations, selfishness all day long!!! Sometimes I wish I could just yell out during a press conference, but I have to try to keep professional! like u say gtc how is a car valued at $57000 a luxury car? what about families who have to buy vans to kart the kids around in, you'd be pretty hard up trying to find one under that!

Reminds me of a press conference (a Press Club luncheon speech if I recall correctly) when then Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser was crapping on about something and one of the off-camera reporters yelled out, "Bullsh*t!" Fraser was rattled. He said, "Oh, that's just great. 'Bullsh*t' from the press gallery."

It made the news and it made me laugh.
